Sulochana Latkar, Amitabh Bachchan’s Mother from the Cinema

The death of Sulochana Latkar, a well-known actor and his teammate in several films, was described as “another great” loss for the Indian film industry by megastar Amitabh Bachchan on Monday.

Sulochana, who was well known for playing various mothers in Hindi and Marathi films, passed away on Sunday at a local hospital after a lengthy illness. Age-wise, she was 94. After playing Sulochana in the 1974 film “Majboor,” Bachchan made the actor a blog tribute.

Sulochana Ji, the kind, kind, and caring mother who appeared in numerous of my movies, has passed away. She had been ill for some time, the author said. In films like “Reshma Aur Shera,” “Roti Kapada Aur Makan,” “Muqaddar Ka Sikandar,” and “Dostana,” Bachchan and Sulochana also had prominent roles. In more than 250 films, Sulochana, a well-known Marathi and Hindi performer, has performed since she started her career in the 1940s.

In the Bollywood movies of the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, she primarily played the mother and was virtually always seen wearing a white saree.

She collaborated with every leading actor of the time, save Bachchan, including Sunil Dutt, Dev Anand, Rajesh Khanna, and Dilip Kumar. Movie stars like Jackie Shroff and Madhuri Dixit Nene expressed their condolences on the renowned actor’s passing.

Sulochana was “one of the most adored and graceful actresses cinema has ever seen,” according to Dixit Nene. Sangate Aika will always be my favorite of her films. She delivered exceptional performances in each of her films. Please find peace; I will miss our conversations. You will always be remembered for your contribution to Indian cinema, she said on Twitter.

Shroff, who portrayed the actor’s on-screen son in the 1984 film “Andar Baahar,” posted a photo of himself and Sulochana with the emoticon for a shattered heart. In 1999, Sulochana was awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian decoration in India.

Kanchan Ghanekar, the actor’s daughter, is the sole heir. She will receive all-state honors upon her cremation on Monday. Raj Thackeray, the founding chairman of MNS, was seen on Monday paying his tributes at her home.
